“Is Taylor There?”
Yes, more girls and young women are watching football thanks to Taylor Swift.
My 7 year-old daughter asks me everytime a football game is on if it’s the Chiefs playing. If the Chiefs game is on you already know the next question, “Is Taylor there?”. And then the next question, “Have they showed her yet?”.
She knows more teams and players, no thanks to me. She watches and knows because of Taylor Swift.
Last Sunday, she asked, “Why is Patrick Mahomes in so many commercials?”. I just laughed. She knows players, and I love it.
I’m gonna be honest here.
When the rumors started swirling that Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift were seen hanging out together and then later dating, I was so annoyed.
I was annoyed because I knew it would dominate the sports world. I was annoyed because I knew they would show her multiple times on TV if she was at a game. But then a few things changed.

This is an AI generated photo of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift. I don’t want to get in trouble for using someone else’s photo.
First, my wife asked me why I cared. Which is a valid question. I was annoyed because I didn’t want this to take over the football game. I didn’t want this to become the main story. You know, the whole, “Stay off my lawn” type of vibe.
So, After reflecting on this question, and thinking long and hard about it for a few days I came to the realization that I don’t care. I want people to be happy. I hope they are happy. Why should I or anybody else care that the broadcast shows T-Swift in her suite, cheering for her man a handful of times a game.
And the other thing.
The reason I really wrote this post.
My daughter loves to watch football with me. This was never a thing before Travis and Taylor started dating. I love that she’s asking questions about football. I love that she is more interested in the game now.
Travis is 35 years-old. In football, that’s almost elderly. He doesn’t have much playing time left, which means I might not have as much football watching time left with my daughter.
So, I guess what I’m trying to say is,
Thank you Taylor Swift, and in some way, thank you also to Travis.
